The British Academy of Film and Television Arts, or BAFTA , hosted their awards ceremony in London yesterday (Feb,12th), and there was one clear winner. The Artist , from French director Michel Hazanavicius, picked up seven awards, including best film, best director and best actor (Jean Dujardin).
A lot of the film world's biggest names were at the ceremony hosted by Stephen Fry, including nominees Brad Pitt and George Clooney. Unfortunately for them, they both went home empty handed. Christopher Plummer, who wasn't in attendance, won his 13th award for his role as Hal in Beginners and is still odds-on favourite to take home the Oscar in the same category.
They have two very big stars to present The Best Film award, neither of whom walked the carpet, dagnabbit. "Like good coffee, great surfing beaches and mediocre cricket, they come from the land down under," it's Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe! "Call this a frakking opera house!" mutters Crowe. Hugh accidentally read Fry's flowery intro, then went into a ridiculously Australian version of same, involving the words "strewth" and "bonza".
